DTF (Direct to Film) transfer film is a high-performance material widely used in textile customization, favored for its vivid printing effect, strong adhesion and soft hand feel. However, many users fail to exert its maximum performance due to improper operation, incorrect parameter setting or improper storage. Proper Storage: Lay the Foundation for Maximum Effect

The storage condition of DTF film directly affects its printing and transfer effect. Improper storage will lead to problems such as moisture absorption, dust contamination and poor ink adhesion, making it impossible to achieve ideal results. The correct storage method should follow the following points: First, store the film in a dry, dust-free and ventilated environment, with the ambient temperature controlled at 20-28℃ and humidity at 40%-60%. Avoid placing it in a humid, high-temperature or direct sunlight environment to prevent the matte printing surface from being damp and discolored. Second, the film should be sealed and stored in its original packaging when not in use. Do not unpack it in advance, and avoid touching the matte surface with bare hands, because the oil on the hands will contaminate the film surface and affect ink adhesion. Third, the film should be placed flat, not folded or pressed heavily, to prevent wrinkles, which will cause deviation during printing and affect the transfer effect. Proper storage can ensure that the performance of DTF film remains stable and lay a solid foundation for subsequent operations.

Standard Operation Steps: Grasp Temperature and Time to Ensure Effect

The core of using DTF film to achieve maximum effect lies in standardized operation and precise control of temperature and time parameters. Each step is closely linked, and any mistake will affect the final transfer effect. The specific steps and key parameters are as follows:

  1. Pre-print Debugging and Calibration

Before printing, it is necessary to debug the printer to avoid problems such as ink blockage and ink bleeding. First, clean the print head: start the printer and perform the automatic cleaning function. If there is slight blockage, gently wipe the print head surface with a dust-free cloth dipped in a small amount of special cleaning fluid until the test page has complete ink output and no broken lines. Then, set the parameters: in the printing software, select the "DTF special mode", adjust the resolution to 1440DPI, and set the ink output to medium (high output is easy to cause ink accumulation and bleeding, while low output will make the pattern gray). Finally, fix the film: lay the DTF film flat on the printer paper feed table with the matte surface upward (the shiny surface is the transfer surface, and printing in the wrong direction will lead to complete ink non-adhesion), and adjust the paper feed guide wheel to avoid film deviation.

 

  1. Pattern Printing and Drying

First, print a small-size test pattern to check whether the pattern edge is clear, there is no bleeding, and the fusion of white ink and color ink is natural. After confirmation, print in batches. During printing, keep the paper feeding smooth to avoid film wrinkling. After printing, do not sprinkle powder immediately. Air-dry the printed film at room temperature for 1-2 minutes (or blow it gently with a low-temperature hair dryer) to evaporate the surface moisture of the ink. Wet ink sprinkling will cause powder agglomeration and affect adhesion.

 

  1. Hot Melt Powder Sprinkling and Curing

Sprinkle the hot melt powder evenly and thinly on the dried pattern surface to ensure that the powder completely covers the ink part without gaps. Then shake off the excess powder (which can be recycled). Next, put the film into the DTF curing oven for curing, set the temperature at 110-120℃, and the time at 2-3 minutes. The qualified standard after curing is that the powder melts into a transparent and smooth film, which is not sticky or falling off. It should be noted that the cold-tear film needs to be cooled to room temperature (20-25℃) after curing before hot pressing, while the hot-tear film can be hot pressed directly without cooling.

 

  1. Heat Press Transfer

Cut the film along the edge of the pattern (1-2mm outside the edge), pre-press the fabric at 100℃ for 1-2 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Then stick the film on the fabric with the shiny surface downward, cover it with a teflon cloth, and set the heat press parameters according to the fabric type: 140-145℃ for pure cotton, 0.3-0.4kgf/cm² pressure, 12-15 seconds; 130-135℃ for polyester/blend, 0.2-0.3kgf/cm² pressure, 10-12 seconds; 145-150℃ for thick canvas, 0.4-0.5kgf/cm² pressure, 15-18 seconds. Do not lift the press in advance to ensure sufficient pressure and time.

 

  1. Film Tearing and Post-treatment

For hot-tear film, tear it horizontally and quickly immediately after hot pressing; for cold-tear film, wait for 30-60 seconds to cool down before tearing slowly. After tearing, perform secondary cold pressing: set the temperature at 100-110℃, pressure at 0.2kgf/cm², and time for 5 seconds to enhance adhesion. Finally, let the finished product stand at room temperature for 24 hours before cleaning.

 

Key Tips for Optimizing Effect

In addition to standard operation and proper storage, the following tips can help exert the maximum effect of DTF film: Use special DTF ink and hot melt powder to avoid using inferior products, which will lead to poor adhesion and discoloration; when printing patterns for dark fabrics, set 2-3 layers of white ink as the base to ensure the hiding power of the pattern; after transfer, wash the fabric in cold water and reverse side to avoid bleaching and heavy rubbing, which can ensure that the pattern remains intact after more than 50 washes. By strictly following the above methods and precautions, you can make full use of the performance of DTF film and obtain perfect transfer results.
